The Woman in Black has almost all the formulas needed to create a creepy horror film; remote villages, people who act strangely, the ghost of a child, the sun shyly reveals his face, and of course an old abandoned mansion. If all this is successfully met, then James Watkins no longer bother to make the audience feel insecure in the cinema. Who worked closely with the script by Jane Goldman, The Woman in Black quite managed to make the hair stand on end for almost 85 minutes. At the time the horror genre filled with trance themes are packaged in the form of found footage, Watkins would return to the classical way. Persistent ghosts that haunt indefatigable in the root of the main problems. Relax, The Woman in Black is not a character study, but a pure horror movie with a cool groove, but is effectively able to spread terror without unduly accentuate the ghost.
After completing his mission to defeat the Dark Lord, Daniel Radcliffe apparently did not continue his dream to become an Auror at the Ministry of Magic, but chose to bekeluarga and worked as a lawyer. Radcliffe is Arthur Kipps, a lawyer in the Victorian era who suddenly becomes a single parent after his wife died when giving birth to their first child. Four years later, Kipps hit with financial problems. Firm where she works does not make things better. Kipps is sent to a village in the north, Crythin Gifford, in order to settle the affairs of his client, who had died, Alice Drablow, who has a mansion called Eel Marsh House. Crythin Gifford described as a village that is contrary to Stepford. No villagers give a warm welcome, even false ones, to Kipps, except Sam Daily (Ciaran Hinds) whose wife has a psychiatric disorder. Kipps job is complicated. Several times they asked him to leave the village. But Kipps remain keukeuh to stay for his work unfinished.
Decisions which must be paid handsomely by Kipps. He was drawn into a series of paranormal events that befall the village. Events that are not only curious Kipps, but also the audience. What actually happens in the village? Along with the emergence of a bubbling curiosity, began to feel uncomfortable clung. Intensity increased as of the appearance of the ghost since Kipps set foot on the island's remote Drablow. Watkins still trying to keep the ghost is not too narcissistic. As a result, scenes of quiet minimal musical accompaniment involving long hallways are dark or garden are turning itself into the woods to make the audience guessing which way the mangosteen fruit of a surprise coming. Guess is not always true, of course. And I was left to suffer. The resulting effect is not sedahsyat insidious, but still The Woman in Black made my hair stand on end and the heart beat faster.
Watkins success is certainly not free from the expertise of Tim Maurice-Jones is able to capture moments of eerie and beautiful landscapes are soothing to the eye. Kudos also for the production design team. A little disappointing, it was Radcliffe and ending. Radcliffe is playing well, there is progress over what he show in the series Harry Potter, but he looks like a schoolboy who was making were not right when the characters as a single father. The shadow of Harry Potter was not completely separated from him. While the ending was not satisfactory, most of the typical horror movie. This could be a disappointment due to the expectation of a longer duration with an increasingly frenzied terror. It felt like I was in a karaoke booth, live up to the middle of the song reaches its climax, and a sudden power failure. Ouch. Even if the solution to make the film feel less lost, a gripping sense of horror classics still managed to be presented. Not the best in its genre, but certainly one of the foremost in recent years.
